SUMMARY: In the USA in 2019, a total of 56 unarmed people were shot and killed by police in the USA, in a population of 330 Million, a rate of 0.17 per million In Calgary in 2016 and again in 2018, ~9* unarmed people were shot by city police, in a population of 1.4 million, a rate of 6.43 per million. IN CONCLUSION, AN UNARMED PERSON IS ~38 TIMES MORE LIKELY TO BE SHOT BY CALGARY COPS THAN BY POLICE IN THE USA.
*Note: I deducted one Calgary police shooting victim who (technically) was “armed” - Dave McQueen had a rifle but he was a quadriplegic, with limited use of his arms. The same trigger-happy Calgary cop also killed unarmed, unthreatening Anthony Heffernan, shooting him several times in the face, and was not prosecuted.
