• tens of trillions of dollars of scarce global resources have been squandered on “wasteful, inefficient” green energy scams;

Rachel, I am infinitely more educated and accomplished in Energy and Climate than you or any of your caucus - and I regard all of you at best as energy imbeciles, and as criminals because of your obtuse insistence on leading Alberta into energy disaster.

Fraudulent “environmental” arguments are a chronic element of discussions about the Alberta oil sands. Extreme-left economic saboteurs appeal to the public’s desire to “save the planet” by literally inventing false green crises one-after-the-other, in order to progress their economic sabotage of our country. I am vastly more qualified in many environmental areas than the radical greens and will say conclusively that most of their alleged environmental crises are false – the green leftists just fabricate their false crises to scare the public and it works, because most people have no scientific or technical competence and naively believe the green lies. That incredible environmental ignorance extends to the boardrooms and senior management of Alberta’s oil industry – more appalling incompetence!

For 60:40 predictions, the odds of being that wrong are 1 in 13 quintillion; for 70:30 predictions, the odds are 1 in 13 septillion. It's not just climate scientists being randomly mistaken – they knew they were not telling the truth.

The biggest green lie is the fraud of fossil-fuel-driven “Climate Change”, previously called “Catastrophic Anthropogenic Global Warming”(“CAGW”), until the world started to cool circa February 2020, even as atmospheric CO2 continued to increase – just as it did previously from ~1940 to 1977. These warming and cooling cycles are naturally-caused, probably driven by solar and ocean cycles, and are certainly not significantly driven by fossil fuels and atmospheric CO2.

To be perfectly clear Rachel, anyone who truly believes in the “fossil fuel-driven climate emergency”, aka “Global Warming Crisis” is an unscientific imbecile.

ADDENDUM – RACHEL’S BOTCHED 2016 FOREST FIRE

RACHEL, REMEMBER THE FORT MCMURRAY WILDFIRE OF 2016, ONE OF THE MANY THINGS YOU COMPLETELY BOTCHED DURING YOUR PREMIERSHIP?

[Another example of your colossal incompetence was your mismanagement of the Alberta Energy Regulator, also in 2016, when we almost lost half the citizens of Calgary to a sour gas disaster - see THE MAZEPPA SOUR GAS STORY.]

Fort McMurray MLA Brian Jean rose in the Legislature and gave notice of the fire, and Rachel you dismissed his concerns. You delayed the firefighting response for days until the fire was too close to Fort McMurray and thousands of homes were lost.

It is so typical of an NDP government, utterly fixated on your leftist nonsense, to not manage real problems with competence. Your NDP caucus could not manage a one-car parade – you are preoccupied with woke nonsense, utterly negligent, and hopelessly incompetent to manage real-world affairs.

The 2016 fire forced ~90,000 people to flee Fort McMurray down the single exit road, Highway 63, and reduced thousands of homes to rubble. The Fort McMurray fire was the costliest insured natural disaster in Canadian history with an estimated ~$4 billion in claims.

The enormous damage from the Fort McMurray fire was caused by lack of preparation. Alberta had adequate warning, notably from the fire that destroyed about 400 homes and buildings in the town of Slave Lake in 2011. The recommendations resulting from that fire were not implemented.

According to the grapevine, a fleet of local helicopters were geared up by their owner to fight the fledgling Fort Mac fire, but he was told they were not needed. You also had not renewed the province’s Water Bomber contract and felt no rush to do so.

In Fort McMurray’s oil sands projects, we have the biggest heavy equipment fleet in the world. With a prompt (Note: NOT Rachel-delayed) response, I say we could have slashed a firebreak around Fort McMurray in days and saved the town.  

Also, the Alberta forest-fire-fighting budget had been slashed by the NDP and some or all such contracts were not even in place.

NOTLEY ACCUSED OPPOSITION OF "FEARMONGERING" OVER FIRE RISK

In the days of before the Northern Alberta fires began burning uncontrollably – causing the evacuation of the entire town Fort McMurray – Premier Rachel Notley accused opposition leader Brian Jean of "fearmongering" and "grandstanding" when he voiced concerns over the province's wildfire preparedness.

The exchange took place on May 3 in the Alberta legislature. Premier Notley took issue with Wildrose Party leader Jean when he asked her if NDP budget cuts had left communities like Fort McMurray dangerously exposed to wildfire, especially during this abnormally hot and dry spring.

Here's a shortened version of their exchange:

Mr. Jean: In Fort McMurray neighbours, friends, and oil sands workers have either had to leave their homes or watch as fires burn very closely to them on the border of our city. Albertans are worried that the NDP doesn't know what a serious threat these wildfires are … How can the Premier possibly defend these types of decisions, putting our communities in Alberta at risk?

Ms Notley: Well, Mr. Speaker, I don't have to defend those types of decisions because we didn't make those types of decisions. The member opposite once again has his facts wrong. We have the resources that we need. They are in place in Fort McMurray.

Mr. Jean: In February a tender was issued for a water-skimming air tanker group. On April 29 this government cancelled the tender. All water-skimming aircraft currently contracted are from Abbotsford, B.C., based Conair. Can the Premier please explain right now to Albertans why this contract was scrapped and why we are settling for slower, short-range, smaller, and less capacity water tanker aircraft?

Ms Notley: We've made it very clear and all the contractors know full well that when we need them, they need to be there. They are there. They are being hired. Every resource that is required is being dedicated to this fire, and the members opposite should stop the fearmongering.

Mr. Jean: This is not fearmongering, Mr. Speaker. You can't cut $400 million from wildfire management and say that you're serious about fighting these fires ... Will the Premier today reverse these terrible decisions so we can make sure that our communities and Albertans are safe?

Ms Notley: [W]e have access to the same number of tankers and all the same amount of equipment that we had before, and we will use that and more, if necessary, because we are concerned about getting the job done in Fort McMurray. We are not interested in engaging in political grandstanding and fearmongering.

MORE ON THE FOREST FIRES

Led by the woke-left NDP, our politicians subsidized billions to convert our coal plants to natural gas, even as natural gas prices quadrupled. Coal power is more reliable, because the coal is mined right at the power plant site, whereas natural gas supply can be interrupted by a severed pipeline.

They allegedly made the change from coal to natural gas to improve air quality – but that was also wrong. Air quality in Alberta is usually excellent, because our coal-fired power plants burn low–sulphur local coal and have anti-pollution equipment that cleans particulates. Of course, CO2 is a red herring – more on that below. 

Forest fires from Alberta and BC typically cause 1000 times the real air pollution of our coal plants. Changing our power plants from coal to natural gas made no measurable difference in air quality – it just wasted billions of dollars and greatly increased electricity costs. A much smaller investment in Alberta and BC forest management would have made a greater improvement in air quality.

There is no real Covid-19 pandemic. Covid-19 was only dangerous to the very elderly and infirm, and is similar in average mortality to other seasonal flu’s of recent decades.

The Covid-19 PCR test is not fit-for-purpose and provides many false positives. Routine testing of asymptomatic people is a waste of resources and drives erroneous policies including lockdowns.

The Covid-19 lockdowns were never effective or justified. Harm done by the lockdowns exceeds by 10 to 100 times the harm from Covid-19. End all lockdowns now and do not lockdown again.

Simple, inexpensive treatments are known to save lives – Vitamin D,  Ivermectin etc. Why are these treatments not being widely recommended and implemented by Alberta authorities?

The increase in deaths of the elderly in Winter is a well-established seasonal phenomenon. “Excess Winter Deaths” in the four Winter months routinely average about 100,000 per year in the USA and about 10,000 per year in Canada, as described on our 2015 summary of Excess Winter Mortality that includes the landmark Lancet study.

The Covid-19 vaccine developments were rushed and are not proven safe or effective and should NOT be taken, especially by the low-risk population - those under-65 or recovered from Covid-19. The two experimental Covid-19 vaccines that contain mRNA (Pfizer and Moderna) are especially risky – due to unknown future side-effects, the risk-to-reward is far too high for the low-risk group. The Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine does not contain mRNA and is expected to be more safe.

I am appalled by the policy incompetence of successive Alberta governments over the past decade and more - please see the Scorecard below. Fortunately for the governing UCP Party, the alternatives – NDP, Liberals and Greens would be even more destructive to Alberta. Wrote the competent Energy Policy for the Wild Rose Party, rejecting the destructive Stelmach Royalty changes
Initiated the New Oilsands Royalty Terms and the New Oilsands Tax Terms implemented by the Klein PC’s and the Feds and also the reduction of Syncrude production costs from $18 to $12 per barrel.
Incorporated these initiatives into a comprehensive strategy for Syncrude, which was implemented and was instrumental in the successful growth of Syncrude and the Alberta oil sands industry.
Result: $250 billion capital investment in Alberta and 500,000 new jobs created in Canada. Canada became the 4^th largest oil producer in the world and the strongest economy in the G8 countries. ~80% of that oil production is from Alberta.
