SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATIONS RE COVID-19 - IMPORTANT!

There is no real Covid-19 pandemic. Covid-19 was only dangerous to the very elderly and infirm, and is similar in average mortality to other seasonal flu’s of recent decades.
The Covid-19 PCR test is not fit-for-purpose and provides many false positives. Routine testing of asymptomatic people is a waste of resources and drives erroneous policies including lockdowns.
The Covid-19 lockdowns were never effective or justified. Harm done by the lockdowns exceeds by 10 to 100 times the harm from Covid-19. End all lockdowns now and do not lockdown again.
Simple, inexpensive treatments are known to save lives – Vitamin D, Ivermectin etc. Why are these treatments not being widely recommended and implemented by Alberta authorities?
The increase in deaths of the elderly in Winter is a well-established seasonal phenomenon. “Excess Winter Deaths” in the four Winter months routinely average about 100,000 per year in the USA and about 10,000 per year in Canada, as described on our 2015 summary of Excess Winter Mortality that includes the landmark Lancet study.

The Covid-19 vaccine developments were rushed and are not proven safe or effective and should NOT be taken, especially by the low-risk population - those under-65 or recovered from Covid-19. The two experimental Covid-19 vaccines that contain mRNA (Pfizer and Moderna) are especially risky – due to unknown future side-effects, the risk-to-reward is far too high for the low-risk group.

Conclusion

In these eight Peruvian State analyses, Ivermectin distributions preceded sound reductions in excess deaths and case fatality rate (CFR). The variation in the number of detected cases nor the vulnerable population decrease can explain this reduction. Other possible explanations, such as cross-immunity with dengue, or mere causality, have been discarded due to their lack of consistency in this study.

Treatment with Ivermectin is the most reasonable explanation for the decrease in number of deaths and fatality rate in Peru. Its implementation in public policies is a highly effective measure to reduce the excess deaths and IFR of COVID-19.

Dr. Ari Joffe, an eminent specialist physician based in Edmonton, published in December 2020 a competent assessment condemning Covid-19 lockdowns based on a cost-benefit analysis. Dr. Joffe concluded that:

“The restrictions do more harm to public health quality than no restrictions”, by a factor of ~10.
“in Canada, the risk of death from infection for those less than 65 years is 100 times lower than for those equal to or greater than 65 years.”
“Governments should target public health resources on the elderly, which have the highest risk of severe outcomes, rather than on the entire population.”
“Lockdowns measures further prevent natural herd immunity.”
“Do not lock down everyone, regardless of their individual risk.”

Isolate people over sixty-five and those with poor immune systems and return to business-as-usual for people under sixty-five.

This full-lockdown scenario is especially hurting service sector businesses and their minimum-wage employees - young people are telling me they are "financially under the bus". The young are being destroyed to protect us over-65's. A far better solution is to get them back to work and let us oldies keep our distance, and get "herd immunity" established ASAP - in months not years. Then we will all be safe again.

My correct conclusions of 21&22March2020 were not lucky guesses – I have to be highly confident before I publish my conclusions, and my track record of major achievements is much better than that of successive Alberta governments (see Scorecard below). The technical difficulty in this situation was finding quality data for Covid-19 – almost all the published mainstream information on Covid-19 is misleading alarmist nonsense – such as numerous positive test results that drive lockdowns, but do NOT equate to significant illness.

It was apparent from early data that Covid-19 was a relatively mild flu, only significantly dangerous to the very elderly and infirm. The Covid-19 lockdown has delayed herd immunity, increased the duration and risk of exposure of the elderly, and allowed the virus to mutate to new and possibly more virulent forms.

In addition, the lockdown has severely damaged the economy, destroyed businesses and harmed their owners and employees, harmed students and our educational system, damaged patients and the health care system, ~doubled opioid overdose deaths of young people, increased suicides, fractured the vital social fabric of human interaction, failed to protect the high-risk elderly, and cruelly caused the elderly to die alone away from family and friends – the Covid-19 lockdown has been a disaster – a total debacle.

The Alberta government has been under pressure from the left to increase the severity of the Covid-19 lockdown and has resisted these pressures. These leftists are the same people who have deliberately damaged our economy by opposing much-needed pipelines to export Alberta oil, costing us over $120 billion to date in lost oil revenues. However, the Alberta government has mistakenly acquiesced to some of the pressures of the left, to our great detriment. By attempting to placate leftist extremists who seek to destroy the Alberta economy, successive Alberta governments have adopted a failed strategy of appeasement that just makes us weaker and poorer.

I see little reason to continue this lockdown conversation – the Alberta government has been provided with numerous credible facts and expert opinions that support the immediate end of the Covid-19 lockdown debacle, but our government continues its failed attempt to please all sides of this issue, and succeeds only in doing more egregious harm to Alberta and Albertans.

In truth, politicians deserve “a lump of coal in your Christmas stockings” for your decade-long mismanagement of the Alberta economy and your foolish acceptance of global warming (climate) hysteria and the destructive Covid-19 lockdown. The saving grace of the Conservatives is that the leftists would have been even more destructive, linking the two frauds of climate and the Covid lockdown, and proposing their “Final Solution”, the full-Marxist “Great Reset”. If the Great Reset is adopted, it will be the end of democracy, the end of freedom.

A recent report that reviewed the cost-benefit balance of lockdowns, widely imposed by governments around the world to prevent the spread of the CCP virus, said the restrictions do more harm to public health quality than no restrictions.

“The decision to adopt repeated or prolonged lockdown measures cannot be based on COVID-19 numbers alone. Instead, we need to better recognize the risks and trade-offs inherent in our public health measures against COVID,” Ari Joffe, a specialist in pediatrics, pediatric infectious diseases, and pediatric critical care medicine at the University of Alberta, wrote in a report (pdf).

The report, titled “Rethinking lockdowns: The risks and trade-offs of public health measures to prevent COVID-19 infections,” Joffe pointed out three major mistakes in the current way of evaluating the impacts of the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus.

First, early estimates of lethality were based on “case fatality rate,” which looks at the number of deaths in confirmed cases of COVID-19. However, this method grossly over-estimates death rates, as most infections are mild and asymptomatic; 99.95 percent of people age less than 70 infected with SARS-CoV-2 survive.

Governments should target public health resources on the elderly, which have the highest risk of severe outcomes, rather than on the entire population, the report states. The risk of death in infected children is 100 to 1000 times lower than in those above 80 year-old.

“In Canada, the risk of death from infection for those less than 65 years is 100 times lower than for those equal to or greater than 65 years,” Joffe wrote. “About 80 percent of deaths from COVID-19 in Canada during the first wave occurred in nursing homes, where elderly people were not adequately protected from infection.”

He said governments should achieve “herd immunity” by vaccination, as an exit strategy from lockdowns.

Natural herd immunity is achieved when enough people are exposed and develop immunity to a pandemic and transmission in the population is kept at a low level. However, lockdowns measures further prevent natural herd immunity, Joffe said.

“Given that people have different connectivity and social mixing, for example, roughly 80 percent of SARS-CoV-2 infections come from just around 10 percent of infected people, this would likely require up to 40 percent of the population to be infected,” he wrote.

Joffe used the “Quality Adjusted Life Years” (QALY) metric to measure the cost-benefit effect of lockdowns. The model assumes that health is a combination of “length of life” and “quality of life,” and the QALY is the “sum of years lived by the population, weighted by the health quality of those years.”

The global economic recession caused by mandated lockdowns costs 250 million QALY, while imposing lockdowns can save roughly 25 million QALY. This means the cost-benefit balance comes out about 10 times against lockdowns, according to the study. In Canada alone, the cost-benefit balance is 17 times against lockdowns, with the cost of 2.05 million QALY against the benefit of 121,040 QALY.

In his suggestion to future government policy, Joffe suggests focusing on protecting people at high risk, particularly the elderly population in nursing homes. Schools should remain open to prevent disrupting education, as children have low morbidity and mortality from COVID-19, the disease the CCP virus causes.

“Do not lock down everyone, regardless of their individual risk,” he wrote.

A lasting side-effect of Covid-19 is the universal growth of state power. Despite global death rates peaking last April and immunity building even without a vaccine, authoritarian leaders are clinging to their recently acquired powers. No doubt they view individual freedom as an optional extra not an inalienable right and want their new powers to become a normal part of governing.

Already, Professor Schwab and his colleagues have started mobilising vast networks of left-wing activists. Indeed, the 2021 annual summit will include members of the WEF’s thousands strong Global Shapers Community, youth crusaders located in 400 cities across the planet. As Schwab says, ‘The changes we have already seen in response to Covid-19 prove that a reset of our economic and social foundations is possible. This is our best chance to instigate stakeholder capitalism’. Those who scoffed at claims that climate change was a stalking horse for a new world order, should think again. That reality is now in full view.

Come January 2021, Professor Schwab’s Great Reset campaign will begin in earnest. Should his ideological opponent, US President Donald Trump, not be re-elected, a major obstacle to achieving his societal and economic revamp will be gone. Schwab is determined that a return to a post-Covid business-as-usual world ‘will not happen’.

Indeed, the World Economic Forum, the United Nations and its various agencies will use the current depressed economic environment, masked as it is by endless government support, together with renewed forecasts of apocalyptic climate change, to push for a ‘more inclusive social contract’, a decarbonised economy and a ‘control without ownership’ business sector, where companies ‘serve all stakeholders not just shareholders’.

Intense pressure will be applied to parliaments everywhere to pass enabling laws and to abdicate more responsibilities to unelected bureaucrats in global institutions. Crony capitalism is anathema to genuine market economies and, giving more leverage to those who encourage it is simply fascistic. No surprise that some of the organisations behind the ‘stakeholder capitalism’ push are accused of corruption, sexual harassment, cover ups and a general abuse of power. Still, the WEF’s oligarchy derives much of its extraordinary influence and wealth from these same institutions and no one should doubt their Big Brother intentions.

Indeed, anyone who fears big government and values free speech, freedom to choose and property rights, should be terrified. Yet, so far, political, business and church leaders, along with the mainstream media, seem oblivious to the threat and turn blind eyes to the dictatorial abuses already perpetrated in the name of the pandemic. There is even bi-partisan support for policies which, two decades ago, would have been considered politically and economically unthinkable.

Stripped of the propaganda, the Great Reset is not new. It’s another fascist experiment being pushed by controlling elitists. Economic growth and social mobility must be subordinate to the collective. Connections will be institutionalised and privilege perpetuated. History demonstrates the children of the elites will receive preferential access to higher education and elite positions. ‘Inclusion’ and ‘fairness’? Forget it. Think inequality, serfdom and misery.

Digging deeper, CAGW is not just a failed hypo, it is a fraud - a scary falsehood concocted by extremists to sell their Marxist agenda - wolves stampeding the sheep.

The CAGW hypo has always been false. By 2009 I wrote that there must be a covert agenda - no rational person could be this intractably stupid for this long. The warmists' routine use of Lenin/Goebbels/Alinsky propaganda tactics was another clear giveaway.

The Covid-19 lockdown was another political fraud that did enormous harm to humanity and the economy.

Another giveaway was the chorus of prominent leftists bleating the same imbecilic message - linking the global warming scam with the Covid-19 lockdown fraud – saying “To solve Covid-19 we must solve climate change” and similar irrational drivel.

The final giveaway of the extremist agenda was their “Final Solution” to all these global false crises, the “Great Reset”. For those who had any doubts, the Great Reset is the overthrow of the capitalist economic system and its replacement by the Marxist command economy, the totalitarian Chinese Communist model, actually a few wealthy Princes at the top looking down on all the poor peasants.

The lockdown sacrificed hundreds of desperate young people and did not even save that many very-elderly-and-infirm.”
“The lockdown was a costly debacle that killed hundreds of desperate young people and saved nobody… Young people were "thrown under the bus" by the lockdown, and we elderly are no safer. Alberta needs to make several changes to revitalize the oilsands – a good start would be to get rid of the imbecilic sliding scale Royalties imposed by the Ed Stelmach PC’s and return to the Klein oilsands Royalty terms that I initiated. Getting rid of all subsidies and mandates for costly, intermittent, worthless “green energy“ (grid-connected wind and solar power generation) would be a good next step. Several other improvements are also possible, but some would require the cooperation of the federal government, and that won’t happen under the Marxist Trudeau Liberals.

The Kenney government has no idea how to extract itself from the self-imposed harm done by the Covid-19 lockdown and successive Alberta governments’ mismanagement of the energy portfolio. Alberta is foundering under poor input to its leadership, and is trying to appease the leftist Opposition and the Trudeau Liberals, who have never acted in Alberta’s best interests and have deliberately sabotaged our economy. Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs Group Inc. are the latest firms to point out the industry’s ability to generate healthy cash flow next year as a reason to buy stocks like Suncor Energy Inc., Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. and MEG Energy Corp. That follows similar reports from BofA Securities and BMO Capital Markets.

“With improved cost structures and increased propensity to be capital disciplined, Canadian producers are emerging from the downturn stronger, with greater ability to generate free cash flow,” Morgan Stanley analysts Benny Wong and Adam J Gray said in a note Friday.

Among tailwinds improving the prospects for the beleaguered heavy-crude producers of northern Alberta are declining competition from Mexico and the start of construction of three pipelines, following years of insufficient shipping capacity.

Steady output from their mines means that oil sands producers are able to keep revenue coming for decades without too much investment, while the short life span of shale wells forces U.S. explorers to constantly burn cash just to keep up production.

Unfortunately, no one in charge seems interested in hearing Redman’s advice. A series of detailed plans he offered to Alberta Premier Jason Kenney, and later to all the other premiers through the Council of the Federation, have either been completely ignored or passed off as old news. Rather than let a lifetime’s experience go to waste, C2C Journal’s Peter Shawn Taylor sat down with Redman last week to learn the basic rules of emergency planning, the many catastrophic mistakes our governments have made to date and how to shift the focus of Canada’s Covid-19 response from fear to confidence before it’s too late.

When an emergency happens, you need a process to create a plan, and then you need to follow that plan. Since the 1950s every government in this country has had a set of emergency plans: what to do in the case of a forest fire, flood, dangerous goods accident or pandemic etc. These are all updated regularly. Alberta’s pandemic plan was last updated in 2014.

But what happened in the middle of March when Covid-19 appeared on our shores after wreaking havoc in China, Italy, Spain and France? Governments took every plan they’d ever written and threw them all out the window. No one followed the process. They panicked, put the doctors in change and hid for three months. And now, having made that mistake, we can’t get out of it.

The problem with our Covid-19 response is that power has been placed in the wrong place. Why? Because governments adopted the wrong mission statement. The first principle of war is the selection and maintenance of the aim. If you miss on that, things are going to go very poorly. Across the country it appears to me that our aim has been to minimize the number of people who catch Covid-19. That is repeatedly reflected in the media. The daily case count is the most important thing in every daily newscast and every news story. It’s all the politicians seem to talk about. This is wrong.

Our aim must be to minimize the impact of Covid-19 on the province as a whole. Not the case count. Not even the death count. Here are the four goals taken directly from Alberta’s 2014 pandemic plan:

1. Control the spread of disease and reduce illness and death by providing access to appropriate prevention measures, care and treatment.

2. Mitigate social disruption by ensuring continuity and recovery of critical services.

3. Minimize adverse economic impacts.

4. Support an efficient and effective recovery.
Note that one of the objectives is to minimize illness and death of the newly emerging disease or threat. But that’s just one of four objectives. Equally important is to ensure that we do not neglect – intentionally or unintentionally – any other pre-existing diseases or conditions. The overall aim of the plan is to minimize both the impact of the new disease, and the effects arising from the response to it, on the entire jurisdiction. And then to get back to normal as quickly as possible.

The fact remains: medical officers of health should never be in charge in any pandemic. This goes right back to the operational planning process. The health care system is the subject matter agency. It deals with operating the hospital system, ensuring health care providers are appropriately trained, ensuring the public is given proper information about the disease and, ultimately, distributing a vaccine. If we were facing a forest fire, Wildfire Operations would be the subject matter agency. It would fight the fire. But it would not be in charge of the entire government response.

Everything else must be handled by a cabinet committee or an emergency management organization that can take into account the impact of the pandemic on the rest of society. Why would anyone put a medical officer of health in charge of an entire province? What do they know about a meat packing plant? Or the water supply system? Or a power grid? Nothing. Their advice is critical – but it should deal exclusively with medical issues. They do not know how to run a province.

In March, April and May, however, we saw provincial leaders hand their chief medical officers the keys to their jurisdictions. The result was lockdowns across the country, of varying intensity. Now, the news media believe public health should be in charge all the time. And that a lockdown is always the best solution.

Since the middle of March, we had access to reliable statistics from China, Spain, Italy, France that showed quite clearly 70 percent of all deaths arising from Covid-19 were of people over the age of 80. Another 18 percent were 70 to 79 years old. Only three-and-a-half percent were under the age of 60. And less than 1 percent of the people who’d died up to that point didn’t have at least one pre-existing underlying medical complication. This wasn’t September. This was March. We knew very quickly what Covid-19 was doing – it was killing old people who had severe comorbidities. The immediate response should have been: how do we protect those people?

As we say in the military, an 80 percent solution applied with vigour immediately is better than a 100 percent solution applied too late. What holds in a battle holds in pandemics too. First, we should have identified every concentration of vulnerable people, including all nursing homes, hospitals and palliative care homes. Then comprehensive options should have been developed to quarantine both the residents of these facilities and the staff who supported them. Support and relief systems for these staff and surge capacity should have been discussed back in March. Instead each new outbreak in a seniors home seemed to come as a surprise.

Quarantines are a powerful tool. But they need to be used appropriately. It is outrageous to hear doctors say we need to lock down healthy people for no reason. Our medical and education systems are overwhelmed, both emotionally and physically, because workers are being sent home for 14 days when they’re perfectly healthy. One person with Covid-19 walks into a hospital and we send 20 staff home. Now everyone else has to work overtime or double shifts.

Let me be clear: I don’t believe we should ever have locked down anything. Every store and school should be open. If you are not afraid of catching Covid-19 because your medical system is robust and we have protected our seniors and the death count is low, then the pandemic is essentially over. Instead we have governments in some provinces telling people they can’t buy big-screen TVs, even though they’ve already mandated that watching TV is about your only legal form of entertainment.

The long-term impact of our response will be felt for years in societal breakdown, mental health problems and the increasing prevalence of other diseases. We are seeing more people dying of cancer and heart disease. People are so afraid of catching Covid-19 that they’re choosing to not go to the emergency room or to see their doctor. The overdose rate is up dramatically in British Columbia since the start of Covid-19. Suicides have increased. Fear is a terrible mental health amplifier.”

This full-lockdown scenario is especially hurting service sector businesses and their minimum-wage employees - young people are telling me they are "financially under the bus". The young are being destroyed to protect us over-65's. A far better solution is to get them back to work and let us oldies keep our distance, and get "herd immunity" established ASAP - in months not years. Then we will all be safe again.

Most of our deaths are in nursing homes – our policy seems to be “Lockdown the low-risk majority but fail to adequately protect the most vulnerable.”

The global data for Covid-19 suggests that deaths/infections will total 0.5% or less – not that scary – but much higher and clearly dangerous for the high-risk group – those over-65 or with serious existing health problems.

“Elective” surgeries were cancelled about mid-March, in order to make space available for the “tsunami” of Covid-19 cases that never happened. Operating rooms are empty and medical facilities and medical teams are severely underutilized. The backlog of surgeries will only be cleared with extraordinary effort by medical teams, and the cooperation of patients who die awaiting surgery - patients who were too impatient…

This may look like 20:20 hindsight, but I called it this way in ~mid-March.

A devastating global pandemic and a reckoning with Wall Street appear to have broken the resolve of the shale wildcatters who turned the U.S. into the world’s biggest oil producer. Years of breakneck growth, at the expense of crude kingpins in the Middle East and Russia, have come to an end. If there was ever any doubt, it’s now abundantly clear who has the upper hand in the global oil market.

“In the future, certainly we believe OPEC will be the swing producer — really, totally in control of oil prices,” Bill Thomas, chief executive officer of EOG Resources Inc., the biggest independent shale producer by market value, said earlier this month. “We don’t want to put OPEC in a situation where they feel threatened, like we’re taking market share while they’re propping up oil prices.”

The shale industry’s prudence, also echoed by the CEOs of Pioneer Natural Resources Co. and Occidental Petroleum Corp., means that production will probably flatten after a steep plunge this year. U.S. oil output will end 2021 close to 11 million barrels a day, about the same as it is now, according to forecasters IHS Markit, Rystad Energy, Enverus and the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

“I see no more growth until 2022, 2023, and it will be very, very light in regard to the U.S. shale industry ever growing again,” Pioneer CEO Scott Sheffield, who’ll run the fourth-largest shale operation in the country after his company completes the takeover of Parsley Energy Inc., said in an interview.

I published this correct call 8 months ago on 21March2020 and nothing has changed, except the death toll – in Alberta, twice the number of ~30-year olds have died from opioid OD's than ~82-year old folks have died from Covid-19. Today I received the following study published in The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), which states that school closures negatively impacted millions of children, and estimates that ~5.5 million years-of-life-lost (YLL) were caused by the closure of USA schools because of the Covid-19 lockdown.

I called it correctly on 21March2020 – NO LOCKDOWN! Covid-19 was a relatively mild flu except for the very elderly and infirm. Covid-19 is less dangerous to the general public than flu's of recent decades that nobody remembers - the FULL lockdown was a huge over-reaction – at best, it was utter incompetence.

Sweden correctly did not impose the full lockdown and had low death rates and is now at or near herd immunity and DID NOT DESTROY ITS ECONOMY.

This full-lockdown scenario is especially hurting service sector businesses and their minimum-wage employees - young people are telling me they are "financially under the bus". The young are being destroyed to protect us over-65's. A far better solution is to get them back to work and let us oldies keep our distance, and get "herd immunity" established ASAP - in months not years. Then we will all be safe again.

I am concerned with the wellbeing of the elderly, but I reject the current practice of harming the young to safeguard us old folks – we should maintain our distance and everyone else should get back to school and work.

Importance United States primary school closures during the 2020 coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic affected millions of children, with little understanding of the potential health outcomes associated with educational disruption.

Objective To estimate the potential years of life lost (YLL) associated with the COVID-19 pandemic conditioned on primary schools being closed or remaining open.

Design, Setting, and Participants This decision analytical model estimated the association between school closures and reduced educational attainment and the association between reduced educational attainment and life expectancy using publicly available data sources, including data for 2020 from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the US Social Security Administration, and the US Census Bureau. Direct COVID-19 mortality and potential increases in mortality that might have resulted if school opening led to increased transmission of COVID-19 were also estimated.

Main Outcomes and Measures Years of life lost.

Results A total of 24.2 million children aged 5 to 11 years attended public schools that were closed during the 2020 pandemic, losing a median of 54 (interquartile range, 48-62.5) days of instruction. Missed instruction was associated with a mean loss of 0.31 (95% credible interval [CI], 0.10-0.65) years of final educational attainment for boys and 0.21 (95% CI, 0.06-0.46) years for girls. Summed across the population, an estimated 5.53 million (95% CI, 1.88-10.80) YLL may be associated with school closures. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported a total of 88 241 US deaths from COVID-19 through the end of May 2020, with an estimated 1.50 million (95% CI, 1.23-1.85 million) YLL as a result. Had schools remained open, 1.47 million (95% credible interval, 0.45-2.59) additional YLL could have been expected as a result, based on results of studies associating school closure with decreased pandemic spread. Comparing the full distributions of estimated YLL under both “schools open” and “schools closed” conditions, the analysis observed a 98.1% probability that school opening would have been associated with a lower total YLL than school closure.

Conclusions and Relevance In this decision analytical model of years of life potentially lost under differing conditions of school closure, the analysis favored schools remaining open. Future decisions regarding school closures during the pandemic should consider the association between educational disruption and decreased expected lifespan and give greater weight to the potential outcomes of school closure on children’s health.
